For coeliac disease and gluten-free diets

Gluten-free pasta in Wuppertal – at the Italian near the Historische Stadthalle

Almost all our pasta dishes are available on request with gluten-free pasta, cooked in its own pot with fresh water, with its own sieve and its own tongs. The pizza is not gluten-free.

Why we do this

Caring about allergies has always been a topic here

Ristorante Taormina at Südstraße 26 in Wuppertal-Elberfeld has been a family business since 1979. Caring about allergies has always been a topic for us. Through friends with coeliac disease we saw how hard it is to eat out gluten-free. For those friends we put the necessary steps in place in our restaurant – and that is why we offer gluten-free pasta.

We know that coeliac disease is not a matter of taste. Even small amounts of gluten can be a problem. That is why simply putting different noodles into the water is not enough. What matters is that the gluten-free pasta never comes into contact with pasta that contains gluten.

How we work

Own pot, fresh water, own sieve, own tongs

We prepare the gluten-free pasta separately:

  • in its own pot with fresh water,
  • with its own sieve,
  • with its own tongs.

This way we avoid gluten from cooking water or kitchen tools ending up on your plate. We are an ordinary restaurant kitchen where pizza is baked as well. So please always tell us if you have coeliac disease – when you book and again when you order.

Pasta and pizza

Which dishes work – and which do not

We can prepare almost all pasta dishes on our menu with gluten-free pasta on request. There may be exceptions for filled pasta, gnocchi and lasagne: ask us which dishes are possible.

The pizza is not gluten-free. We say this clearly so that you are not caught by surprise.

Below you see the pasta from our menu. If some guests at your table do not eat meat, take a look at our page Vegetarian food in Wuppertal. Questions beforehand? Call us: 0202 300589, or see Contact and Directions & parking.
