Sicilian roots
Sicilian food in Wuppertal – at Taormina in Elberfeld
A family business since 1979, close to the Historische Stadthalle: Italian cooking with Sicilian flavour, pistachios from Bronte and wines from the island.

To be honest
Italian with a Sicilian heart
Ristorante Taormina at Südstraße 26 is named after a town on Sicily, and the family behind it has Sicilian roots. Cateno Costa opened the restaurant in Wuppertal-Elberfeld in 1979, and since 2011 his son Fabrizio Costa has run it as owner, sommelier and chef.
So that you do not arrive with the wrong expectations: we are not a purely Sicilian restaurant with a menu full of island specialities. Our menu offers the broad range of Italian cooking – antipasti, pasta, pizza, meat and fish. The Sicilian part lies in the flavour, in a few ingredients and in the family's attitude. If you are looking for Sicilian food in Wuppertal, you will find Italian cooking with a Sicilian signature here.

The kitchen
The full range – with Sicilian flavour
This is how Fabrizio Costa describes Taormina (translated from German):
"We are relaxed, offer the full range of Italian cuisine, and with the fullest Sicilian flavour."
– Fabrizio Costa
In the open kitchen you can watch the cooks plate up. You can read more about the history of the house, from 1979 to today, on the About us page.

Dolci
Pistachios from Bronte and a nod to Etna
The link to Sicily is easiest to read in the desserts. The Panna Cotta al Pistacchio is made with Sicilian pistachios from Bronte, and the Soufflé Bianco Etnea carries Mount Etna in its name. Both are on our Dolci menu, and you can see them in detail below.
If you prefer a classic: our tiramisu has its own page, Tiramisu in Wuppertal.
Drinks & wines
Sicily in the glass
Fabrizio Costa is a sommelier, and our drinks and wine list includes wines from Sicily: Sicilia DOC and Terre Siciliane IGT from the Firriato winery, white and red. The list is wider than Sicily. If you are not sure what goes with your meal, our service team will gladly advise you.
